About Ryan
Professor Ryan Walden is a third-degree Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt with a lifetime dedicated to the art, competition, and the development of future martial artists.
Ryan began his jiu jitsu journey at CBJJ, a Rigan Machado affiliate, and began competing as a white belt, continuing through purple belt while medaling at every competition he entered. His pursuit of technical excellence led him to study under Professor Jorge “Van Damme” Oliveira and Professor Carlos “Sapão” Ban, a third-degree black belt under Ralph Gracie.
Ryan received his brown belt from seven-time World Champion Robson “Robinho” Moura, one of the most decorated competitors in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu history. While holding a brown belt, and backed by five years of Muay Thai training, Ryan tested his skills inside the cage as a professional mixed martial artist.
As his career progressed, Ryan began refining his teaching philosophy with a special focus on youth development. He became deeply committed to building strong Kids Brazilian Jiu Jitsu programs, laying foundations that would influence academies and students for generations.
After nearly a decade of dedication, Ryan earned his Black Belt under Professor Mario “Busy” Correa. Professor Busy continues to mentor Ryan today through Karma Jiu Jitsu Colorado, ensuring the continued evolution of his art and teaching.
Ryan has coached and cornered fighters since 2006, from local promotions to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He has coached both amateur and professional fighters across Hawaii, Nevada, and California - bringing home five championship titles.
Professor Ryan Walden’s legacy is built not only on medals and titles, but on the students, families, and communities he continues to inspire.

About Alan
Coach Alan is a U.S. Army Veteran, former corporate banker, lifelong student of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and founder of Karma Jiu Jitsu along with his wife Raechel. Alan has dedicated his life to learning, teaching, and sharing the art across the world. As a BJJ Globetrotter, Alan has trained in twelve countries across three continents, immersing himself in diverse jiu jitsu cultures and philosophies.
Throughout his journey, Alan has spent countless hours learning from many of the world’s most respected instructors, including Chris Hauter, Rafael Lovato Jr., John Danaher, Roberto “Gordo” Correa de Lima, Will Dorman, Ryan Walden, Heather Raftery, Rich Sab, Joshua Janis, Fernando “Gringo” Zulick, Kieran Kichuk, and many others.
Beyond jiu jitsu, Alan is also an E-RYT certified yoga instructor with a deep understanding of body mechanics, mobility, and movement efficiency. His unique combination of martial arts and yoga allows him to teach with exceptional detail, helping students move smarter, stay safer, and unlock new levels in their training.
You will often hear Alan say, “Jiu jitsu is not about jiu jitsu.” This philosophy reflects his belief that what is learned on the mats — awareness, discipline, humility, and resilience — is meant to be carried into everyday life. Alan doesn’t just teach techniques; he helps people transform.

About Mike
Mike is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt (Ryan Walden) who grew up in the suburbs of Chicago with a lifelong interest in combat sports and martial arts. Taekwondo was his first love, shaping his foundation in discipline and movement from a young age. As he moved into high school and adulthood, other sports took priority, but the pull of the mats never left him.
Mike initially returned to training through a kickboxing program, planning to sharpen old skills, learn something new, and get a solid workout. After watching a few jiu jitsu classes from the sidelines, curiosity turned into commitment. He quickly hung up his gloves, stepped onto the mats, and never looked back.
What began as a fitness goal soon became a passion, and a community.
Mike often says he never expected to find lifelong friendships through jiu jitsu, but that has become one of the most meaningful parts of his journey.
Jiu jitsu is now a family tradition. Mike’s son Andrew started training at just five years old and has been on the mats for over six years. While his daughters haven’t joined him yet, Mike is still holding out hope, and keeping the extra gis ready.
Mike brings dedication, heart, and a genuine love for the art into every class, helping students grow both on and off the mats.

About Raechel
Professor Raechel is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt (Fernando “Gringo” Zulick) and the founder of Karma Jiu Jitsu, along with her husband Alan Titone. Her martial arts journey began in childhood, inspired by films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Three Ninjas, and the world of Dragonball Z, which sparked a lifelong love for movement, discipline, and inner strength.
As a teenager, Raechel trained in Taekwondo before transitioning into high school wrestling. As an adult, she returned to Taekwondo, a path that ultimately led her to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2015, the art that would change her life.
Jiu Jitsu became more than a sport; it became the community and support system Raechel needed as a single mother of two. When her children were old enough, they joined her on the mats, and today jiu jitsu is woven into their everyday lives. You’ll often find Jessle and Zedden helping coach the kids’ classes, continuing the family’s tradition of leadership, kindness, and service.
Now more than eleven years into her journey, Raechel continues to train, teach, and give back with a deep commitment to growing the jiu jitsu community - with a special passion for empowering women, building confident youth, and creating a space where everyone belongs.
Karma Jiu Jitsu is not just a gym, it is a community, and Raechel is at its heart.

About Cody
Cody is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Brown Belt (Ryan Walden). Cody has trained Jiu-Jitsu for six years. Originally from Texas, he has been an athlete his entire life playing football, soccer, and lacrosse - experiences that shaped his discipline, work ethic, and love for competition.
Cody believes Jiu Jitsu is more than a sport; it is a tool for building confidence, commitment, teamwork, and mental resilience. He is especially passionate about the strategic and problem-solving side of Jiu Jitsu, embracing the mental challenge just as much as the physical demands.
Off of the mats, Cody is an avid pool player, continuing to sharpen his focus, patience, and competitive mindset. Whether he’s coaching or training, Cody brings energy, encouragement, and a genuine passion for helping others grow, both on and off the mats.

About Vinny
Vinny is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt (Ryan Walden). A lifelong athlete, Vinny grew up playing baseball and football, developing a deep appreciation for discipline, teamwork, and the connection between physical health and mental well-being. He strongly believes in a “healthy body = healthy mind” approach to life and training.
Originally from New York City, Vinny made the move to Colorado to step away from the hustle and create a more balanced, purpose-driven lifestyle. That same intention carries into everything he does, both on and off the mats.
In addition to coaching, Vinny is an entrepreneur who runs a highly successful marketing firm dedicated to helping small businesses grow and thrive. His passion for leadership, personal development, and community makes him a natural mentor for the next generation of athletes.
At Karma Jiu Jitsu Colorado, Vinny brings energy, positivity, and real-world perspective to every class, helping students build confidence, discipline, and a strong foundation for life.

About Chris
Chris is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt.

About Jake
Jake is a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt (Howie Spratte), is from a small town in Illinois, where I grew up playing baseball, golf, and boxing - building a lifelong love for movement, competition, and staying active. I moved to Colorado about ten years ago and have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over eight of those years.
Jake lives with his wife, Elissa, and their very talented cat, Camper, who really does know tricks (and will happily prove it).
Every November you’ll usually find Jake at the Arizona BJJ Globetrotters Camp, embracing one of his favorite parts of jiu jitsu: the incredible global community. Jiu jitsu has a unique way of bringing people together, no matter where you are in the world, you instantly share something that crosses cultures and language barriers. Jake feels deeply grateful for the friendships and experiences he has gained through the mats.
Outside of training, Jake loves building strength in the winter through lifting and jiu jitsu, and in the summer he takes that fitness outdoors with hiking, adventure, and of course more jiu jitsu.
A core value of Jake’s is to play and experiment on the mats. He believes this approach keeps training safer, more joyful, and deeply effective for long-term growth. Since white belt, his motto has been #GrappleHappy and you’ll always find him training with a big smile, singing along to the music, and genuinely having fun.
At the end of the day, loving the game is what keeps you growing.

JIU JITSU & KARMA
Karma is regarded as the natural law of cause and effect that governs the universe. Karma literally means ACTION and karma is both the power latent within actions, and the results our actions bring. In simple terms, what does karma mean? It means that whatever we do with our body, speech, or mind, will have a corresponding result. Each action, even the smallest, is pregnant with consequences. It is said, that even a little poison can cause death, and even a tiny seed can become a huge tree.
The law of karma is inevitable and infallible, whenever we harm others, we are directly harming ourselves, and whenever we bring happiness to others, we are bringing ourselves future happiness. When we practice jiujitsu, each movement or action we make naturally causes a (re)action from our partner. When we do well, we are able to take actions that benefit us and further our goals. If we move inefficiently or recklessly the consequence can be that we lose our position, advantage, or at worst our training partner. We are constantly deciding how to move and are making judgements about the best interests of ourselves and our training partners. When we are doing jiujitsu, just like life, we should focus on the things that we can control. We quickly learn the only thing we can control is ourself.
Karma is not tangible, transferable, or sentient. Karma does not decay like external things, or ever become inoperative. It cannot be destroyed by time, fire, or water. Karma is not fatalistic or predetermined. Karma means our ability to create and to change. It’s creative, because we can determine how and why we act. We can change. The future is in our hands, and in the hands of our heart.
